The living room in Psychiatric Acute Reception Vordingborg, Oringen is designed with the goal of creating a safe environment with a focus on calm and homeliness.

The room, which is furnished with safe furniture in positive colours, has also been fitted with our self-harm, suicide and violence prevention curtain solution. A solution where patients, staff and relatives will now have the opportunity to take ownership of the light in the room without compromising safety.

The curtain solution consists of a specially designed ligature-proof curtain rail and some unique hooks that detach from the curtain rail when dragged in. There are no parts that can be used for violence or self-harm, and in the event that the curtain has fallen, it can easily be re-setup by the patient or staff.

The curtains also contribute colour and improved acoustics in the room.

The self-harming and suicide prevention curtain rail is designed to meet mental health challenges and similar environments to promote a caring, safe and healing environment.

The whole process has been in close cooperation with the staff at the department, where we have had good sparring, knowledge sharing, and dialogue around possible solutions so that we could come to terms with an optimal solution that ensures good functionality, unique design, and optimal interior design.
