to prevent violence and self-harm.
The Prison and Probation Service writes, among other things: “A tapered toothbrush or toilet brush can be a dangerous weapon against both inmates and staff.
Therefore, the Prison and Probation Service has now introduced the possibility of purchasing rubber and plastic items as an alternative to some of the items handed out to inmates.
The new rubber and plastic items are made of hard, pliable rubber and include toothbrushes, toilet brushes, crockery and cutlery, among other things.
The alternative items can be purchased in the departments and institutions where it is deemed relevant.
The opportunity to purchase the new items is seen as an important step in minimizing the risk of assault on both inmates and staff as well as self-harm among the inmates.”
