In connection with a refurbishment of The Psychiatric Emergency Reception Vordingborg, new safe furniture has been installed. Furniture which both in design and functionally help to create a normalized and safe environment for patients and staff. A project carried out in an exciting collaboration with the staff at the department.
When you enter the emergency reception in Vordingborg, you are greeted by calm colours and soft furnishings that invite you to calm down and relax. Psychiatric Emergency reception has been opened in newly renovated buildings, where much has been done to create an environment that is as user-friendly as possible for both patients and staff.
The ambition has been to create an environment that makes arrival as reception-friendly as possible while focusing on prevention in relation to the potential for violence and self-harm. All the selected furniture is thus specially designed for psychiatry, and adapted to the different areas of Psychiatric Acute Reception (PAM).
THE RECEPTION
The colors of the furniture in the reception/waiting room are aligned with the poster with the waterfall. It is desired that the reception room should be as homely, quiet and cozy as possible. At the same time, much thought is given to the fact that it must be possible and easy to clean the furniture. Therefore, all upholstered furniture is upholstered with vinyl textiles that are waterproof and easy to clean and disinfect. There are no openings between the armrest, back and seat, which eliminates the ability to store sharp objects, drugs, etc.
THE LIVING ROOM
In the living room, as in the reception, there has been a great focus on creating a room that is as cozy and normalized as possible. There are also thoughts behind the chosen colors of the furniture, which should help to create a quiet and homely environment.
In total, the entire department contains 10 patient rooms, a reception and a living room with a kitchen. In the living room the colors of the furniture are carefully coordinated, so the room is experienced as a cozy and homely environment.
OUTDOOR SPACE
On the first floor there is built an outdoor room where it is possible to smoke, and here too we have decorated with impact-proof furniture that can stand out in all weathers.
PATIENT ROOMS
The patient rooms are furnished with an armchair and shelving. Both furniture is made of protective plastic material, which also makes it easy to clean.
FURNISHING WITH A RED THREAD
There has been a focus on ensuring a red thread in the choice of furniture, colors, and functionality through all the rooms in the department to ensure as homely and normalized an environment as possible.
The whole process has been in close cooperation with the staff at the department, where we have had good sparring, knowledge sharing, and dialogue around possible solutions so that we could come to terms with an optimal solution that ensures good functionality, unique design, and optimal interior design.
